According to Sgt. Chris Sparks, police responded to a report of multiple gunshots fired at the apartment complex at 316 Elm St. Sunday between 8:50 p.m. and 9:10 p.m. Sparks said officers were flagged down by the driver of a vehicle on Noble Street and discovered the 13-year-old gunshot victim inside the car.
The boy was shot in the back and arm while running away from the suspect, Sparks said. He was taken to Regional Medical Center for treatment and is expected to recover from his injuries. Police were uncertain today if the victim was still hospitalized.
When police arrived at the scene, they found evidence of a shooting, but no weapon was recovered, the sergeant said.
The victim’s mother told police an argument led to the shooting. Police interviewed witnesses and suspects have been identified, Sparks said.
Suspects are likely to be charged with felony first-degree assault charges, Sparks said.
