For several years, the local Tri Delta Alumnae Chapter and Tyson Fine Wines and Things have teamed up to raise funds for Children’s Hospital of Alabama (now Children’s of Alabama) and UAB Pediatric Cancer Research program for childhood cancer. They’re doing it again this week, and you’re cordially invited to join them Thursday night at Tyson’s on Henry Road.
Relax and enjoy a wonderful wine and cheese tasting benefit to support this worthy cause. The event is from 5:30-7:30 p.m., and Grassroots Wine in Birmingham promises to bring a wonderful selection of imports, as well as California wines that will please everyone. Ian Green from Grassroots will be on hand to discuss the selection he has chosen for the tasting.
But really, it’s not just about the wines for the evening. Alumnae Chapter President Lucy Whatley and planning committee members Susan Cook, Caroline Haberer and Cathy Fockele hope you attend and learn about the goals and mission of the Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Research Program at the University of Alabama Birmingham Medical Center.
UAB’s Children’s Oncology Group is the world’s largest childhood cancer research organization and the only National Cancer Institute funded by the Pediatric Cancer Cooperative Group in the United States. Good things are happening in our state for childhood cancer! The goal of UAB’s Division of Hematology and Oncology is to serve children and young adults with cancer and blood disorders throughout the Southeast.
Janet Tyson Prosser and David Prosser, owners of Tyson Fine Wines and Things, have been longtime supporters of local cancer research and are pleased the fundraising event will be at their location in Golden Springs. If you’ve never visited their lovely shop, prepare to be wowed. Not only do they boast an outstanding wine selection, they have loads of unique gifts and treasures to delight any discerning shopper.
Mark your calendar for Thursday, bring a friend, enjoy good wine and good food and make a donation for childhood cancer research in Birmingham.
