The department announced today that it had successfully prosecuted 14 Alabamians in January for unemployment compensation fraud, three of whom are from Clay County. The three area residents defrauded the state for a total of $11,010 in unemployment compensation, according to a release from the department.
Each of the three area residents pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 60 days in jail. However, their sentences will be suspended for two years, until the they pay court costs and restitution in the amount they received illegally.
Ronald Seymour of Delta was tried Jan. 8 in Clay County District Court. An investigation by Labor’s Benefit Payment Control Section determined Seymour received a total of $2,915 in benefits to which he was not entitled.
Farry L. Griffin of Lineville was tried Jan. 8 in Clay County District Court. An investigation determined Griffin received a total of $3,192 in unentitled benefits.
Michael McLemore of Lineville was tried Jan. 8 in Clay County District Court. An investigation determined McLemore received a total of $4,903 in unentitled benefits.
