GLENCOE --- After a sweet start to the 2008 season, things have turned sour for White Plains. The Wildcats have suffered three straight losses and have yet to score in region play. When things are that bad, sometimes you must look for silver linings among all the grey clouds.
One could have perhaps come in Friday’s 33-0 loss to Glencoe.
Quarterback Tyler Jones was unable to play in the game because of a shoulder injury. Wildcat coach Heath Harmon turned to sophomore Connor Amos and got a solid performance. Despite being sacked four times, Amos went 20-for-27 for 187 yards.
Amos did throw two interceptions, but the aspect of depth --- not to mention young depth --- at a struggling program always shines a bright light toward the future.
While Amos didn’t have two turnovers, he had company in his misery as the Wildcats fumbled four more times, resulting in 14 Glencoe points.
Things won’t get any easier this week as the Wildcats take on Spring Garden. In the past, this game has matched up two teams in the same places in the season, it won’t be the case this season.
Spring Garden is 3-1 and likely very determined after coming off their first loss of the season, a 28-3 defeat at the hands of Gaston. The game is homecoming at White Plains and kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
