Youth football league donates record amount

Tuesday, Dec. 16, the Jacksonville Youth Football League gave $7,000 to help the local schools. Coach Roland Houston accepted a $3,000 for the Jacksonville High School football team to purchase practice equipment.

Coach Shane Harper received two checks – $750 to purchase basketball uniforms for seventh and eighth grade players and another $750 for the golf team.

A check for $1,000 went to Kitty Stone Elementary and a $1,500 check was given to the JHS Golden Eagle Band. Band director Jeff Gossett and booster club president Eric Dryden were on hand to accept the funds.

The money comes from gate charges and concession stands during the midget, peewee and junior B games played by the league. Since all players are required to be part of the local school system, Greg McFall, the league’s president, and the board members decided to give the money they make to the schools and their organizations, since their players will ultimately benefit.

This year’s donation was the largest in the league’s history and McFall said he hopes to be able to continue giving these large donations.

“We hope our program continues to be blessed and prosper,” said McFall.
