The first Major Dwayne Williams Memorial Golf Classic will be held Saturday, June 7, at Cane Creek Golf Course.The tournament will help raise funds for four scholarships for students at Jacksonville State University given in the name of Williams, who died at the Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001.
“Despite my overwhelming grief, I was inspired by great love for the son to reach out to others in need,” Pearl Williams said. “Therefore I established the four scholarships at Jacksonville State. I am coordinating the first tournament to raise funds for the scholarships.”
The tournament will be a four-person format played as a two-person scramble with combined best ball score the team score.
First place in the four-person best ball will be $500, second place $300 and third place will be a gift package. First place in the two-person scramble will be $200.
Early registration fee is $50 per player and ends May 23. After May 23, registration will be $60 per person. The fee includes green fee, cart, lunch, commemorative T-shirt and goodie bag. Door prizes and other events are planned.
