TUCSON, Ariz. – Jacksonville State University’s Todd Cunningham was named to the 2008 Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American Team, as announced by Collegiate Baseball.Cunningham, who was named the OVC Freshman of the Year last month, batted .343 with 69 hits, an OVC-best 62 runs, 14 doubles, three triples, a home run, 29 RBI and six stolen bases.
“Todd had a great year for us and played a key role in the success that we had this season,” said JSU head coach Jim Case.
“We moved Todd to the leadoff spot midway through the season and we posted a 28-5 mark with him in that spot. He was definitely a catalyst for our team.”
The Jacksonville High School product started 54 of the team’s 55 games and all 27 OVC games, in which he posted a .356 average.
It marks the fourth straight season that Jacksonville State has had a player named Freshman All-America as Cunningham joins Donovan Hand (2005), Bert Smith (2006) and Ben Tootle in 2007.
