Former star sentenced

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. — Former New York Giants receiver Mark Ingram was sentenced Tuesday to more than seven years in prison for bank fraud and money laundering. It's a third term behind bars for the player who starred in the 1991 Super Bowl.

The 42-year-old Ingram, whose son Mark Jr, plays at the University of Alabama, also was ordered in Long Island federal court to pay $252,000 in restitution. He is free on $200,000 bail until Dec. 5.

He said the criminal record he has had since his 1996 retirement is "not who I am."

"It hurts me to my core," Ingram said. "I made mistakes."

Ingram pleaded guilty in November 2005 to laundering money he believed to be proceeds from narcotics deals and to bank fraud for cashing counterfeit checks.

U.S. District Court Judge Denis R. Hurley noted the "dedication and commitment" Ingram had shown on the football field but also his record, which includes seven previous convictions and goes back 23 years.

Ingram is best remembered for eluding five tackles to make a key first down during the '91 Super Bowl in which the Giants beat Buffalo.

• FALCONS WAIVE MILNER: The Atlanta Falcons waived second-year tight end Martrez Milner on Tuesday.Milner, a fourth-round draft pick from Georgia in 2007, had been on the inactive list for the team's first two games. Milner caught nine passes for 50 yards in eight games last season.

• QB'S SHOULDER SPRAINED: Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin clarified the status of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger's shoulder: Sprained but not separated.

The injury will likely keep Roethlisberger from fully participating in practice Wednesday, but not from playing on Sunday against Philadelphia.

• SEAHAWKS PICK UP RECEIVERS: The Seattle Seahawks took two steps to bolster their injured-depleted wide receivers by trading for Keary Colbert and reacquiring Koren Robinson on Tuesday.

Seattle agreed to a one-year contract with Robinson, its former No. 1 draft choice. Agent Alvin Keels confirmed the agreement and its length in an e-mail to The Associated Press.

Robinson worked out for the Seahawks on Tuesday and convinced team president Tim Ruskell he has changed since Ruskell released him in the 2005 season because of repeated problems with alcohol.

The Seahawks have lost six wide receivers to injury this season.

• CB SUSPENDED FOR HIT: Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie cornerback Elbert Mack was suspended one game without pay by the NFL on Tuesday for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan.

The league said the flagrant violation of player safety rules was the second in three games for the undrafted free agent, who was fined $5,000 for an unnecessary roughness foul against Houston quarterback Alex Brink during the Bucs' preseason game finale on Aug. 28.
