Cross country
Oxford's cross-country girls and boys teams added some hardware to their growing list of accomplishments by placing first and second at the TCBY Invitational this past weekend at Sokol Park in Tuscaloosa.
The Lady Yellow Jackets were led by Cori Green (21:21.8) and her second-place finish in race that featured 55 runners. Abigal Garcia (23:19.5), Ryan Green (23:24.3) and Elizabeth Ogle (23:27.5) also finished in the top 10.
Oxford's boys runner-up finish was sparked by junior standout Nathan Thrasher, who won his third meet of the year with an impressive 17:30 finish.
Four other Yellow Jackets placed in the top 20 out of the field of 65 runners, including Jacoby Dove (19:30), Maverick Gidley (19:58), Tanner Ingram (20:26) and Landon Delozier (20:57).
Volleyball
ALEXANDRIA — Wellborn improved to 25-18 with a pair of wins over White Plains and Alexandria in a tri-match on Monday.
The Lady Panthers defeated White Plains 25-17, 25-18, and Alexandria 25-23, 25-17.
For Wellborn, Latoya Ellington had 24 kills, eight blocks and three digs. Briana Garnder added 10 kills, five aces and eight digs. Kayla Shears had nine blocks and six kills, and Jessica Gardner had seven digs and 14 assists. Megan Hubbard, in his first start this season, had nine kills and nine digs. Shelby Perry added 20 assists.
Wellborn returns to action today with a tri-match at Tarrant.
