Weather undoes Munford

MONTGOMERY — Nearly everything seemed to be working against the Munford Lady Lions Thursday at Lagoon Park.

Even the weather.

After struggling most of the morning against West Blocton's Valerie Cook, the Lady Lions earned a pair of base runners with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning in their first-round game.

With rain intensifying, TaShayla Turner worked the count to 2-0, before game officials sent everyone off the field. It was the second rain delay of the game … and it turned out to be fatal to Munford's comeback hopes.

The game — like every other Thursday game, save one — was called complete, with West Blocton winning 8-0.

Class 1A

Milry 8, Spring Garden 3

In Montgomery, play was suspended twice before tournament officials called the game, awarding the victory to Milry on the account of the home team being ahead after five innings. Spring Garden's Bree Blevins took the loss for the Panthers, giving up eight runs on five hits while striking out five, walking four and hitting three batters.

Bridget Parris was 2-for-2 at the plate for Spring Garden and Lindsey Lambert added a pair of hits including a double. Brianna Messer contributed with a sacrifice RBI and Tara Mullinax went 1-for-3 with an RBI in the loss.

Spring Garden (22-9) will face the winner of Ragland- Pleasant Home in an elimination game today at 4 p.m.

Ragland 8, Pleasant Home 6 (suspended in top of the fifth)

The game was suspended with Ragland ahead two runs but was suspended due to harsh weather. The game, which wasn't called as five innings had not been completed, will pick back up at 8 a.m. today.
