HYANNIS, Mass. — Jacksonville State junior pitcher Ben Tootle has been selected to play in the Cape Cod League All-Star Game for the West Team. The game will be played on Saturday and will be broadcast nationally at 6 p.m. by the New England Sports Network. Two 21-player squads were chosen by the league's 10 managers during a league meeting in Hyannis with the aid of Commissioner Paul Gallop. In each division, 10 starters and 11 reserves were picked, along with four alternates. Tootle, a former Oxford standout, leads the Cape Cod League in ERA as the closer for the Falmouth (Mass.) Commodores. He has a 0.98 ERA in 18 1/3 innings with a 2-2 record and three saves. He has allowed just seven hits and two earned runs. NESN will be on hand to present a live telecast of the game for the first time ever. Eric Frede and former major league pitcher Jim Beattie will handle the play-by-play and color, respectively. |
