Vanderbilt to don new threads NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt football players will wear nine uniform variations this season with black, gold and white options for both jerseys and pants. The two-color stripe, standard on Commodore pants from 2002 to 2006, has been removed, replaced with a Nike "swoosh" and the team's official two-color "Star V" logo patch stitched on either hip. The two-color stripe formerly on jersey sleeves also has been eliminated, replaced with a one-inch solid black stripe. Making the jersey unique to Vanderbilt is the inclusion of the color "Star V" logo into a "home plate" design in the front collar. The same logo also has been added to the back of each jersey above the number, making Vanderbilt one of only a few teams nationally to feature such a design. Ex-Terps QB enrolls at Memphis Quarterback Tyler Bass has enrolled at the University of Memphis after originally signing with Maryland. The school announced Tuesday that Bass will be eligible for the 2008 season. After signing with Maryland in February, he requested and was granted a release by the school. Memphis said in a news release that Bass will begin practice with the Tigers on Aug. 4. Bass played at Stockbridge High School in Atlanta where he was a two-year starter at quarterback, throwing for more than 2,400 yards and 28 touchdowns. As a senior, he rushed for 606 yards and 11 TDs. No deal between Titans, All Pro DT All Pro defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth doesn't have the security of the long-term contract with the guaranteed money he wanted. What he does have is a one-year deal paying him $7.25 million and a season to make his case that he deserves what he's asking. The Tennessee Titans and Haynesworth failed to reach an agreement on an extension by Tuesday's deadline for franchised players. Both sides can keep talking, but no long-term contract could be signed until after the Titans finish the season. Cards sign Doucet The Arizona Cardinals have signed third-round draft choice Early Doucet to a three-year deal. Terms weren't disclosed. The wide receiver led national champion LSU last year with 57 receptions for 525 yards and five touchdowns. He made 22 starts in his college career, finishing with 160 catches and 20 touchdowns. Hamlin, Dallas agree on long-term contract Dallas Cowboys safety Ken Hamlin won't have to wait until after the season for a long-term contract. The Cowboys and Hamlin agreed Tuesday on a $39 million, six-year deal that includes a $9 million signing bonus and guarantees the Pro Bowl safety about $15 million. The six-year deal signed by Hamlin is similar to what safety Gibril Wilson got from Oakland this offseason. |
