Mrs. Melton died at her residence on Thursday, February 16, 2012.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, William Glenn Melton; two daughters, Sandra Jean Melton Hobbs and her husband, James, of Jacksonville and Donna Anita Melton Russell and her husband, Dave, of Tampa, Fla.; a son, Justin William Melton, of Zaneville, Ohio; a brother, Marcus Allison Rinehart and his wife, Nell, of Jacksboro, Tenn.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three nieces and threenephews.
Pallbearers will be Deacons of Angel Grove Baptist Church. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Ruth Sunday School Class.
Mrs. Melton was a member of the Ruth Sunday School Class at Angel Grove Baptist Church. She was President of the Protestant Women of the Chapel for 4 years and belonged to the NCO Wives Club, and the Sergeants-Major Wives Club. General David E. Ott once described Mrs. Melton as “one of the finest military wives” he has ever known. Mrs. Melton also belongs to the Great Plains Extension Club and was awarded a first place trophy for her periwinkle and “Best of the Show” for her pecan pie and her broccoli and rice casserole. She enjoyed sewing, reading, cooking, gardening and fishing.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bazzie Woodfin Rinehart and Myrtis Barnes Rinehart; a sister, Sabra Lee Staggers and a brother, Robert Woodfin Rinehart.
The family would like to thank the following Amedisys Hospice caregivers for their compassionate, loving care, Teia Horton, May Smith, Sabrina Long, Jessica Burrows, Carmen Wagnor and Lindsey Horton.
