Roads fill with water from heavy rain, downed trees cut power
Heavy, steady rain flooded roads in Oxford and surrounding areas this morning, stranding some cars as the torrent covered the pavement. Meanwhile, downed trees cut electrical power to about 5,000 customers in the Anniston area.

According to the Alabama Department of Labor, the county's unemployment rate decreased to 6.5 percent in April from 7.1 percent in March. The decrease was due to a gain of 645 employed workers between the two months.
