You can teach a fat cat new tricks My daughter Twila and I were talking about recipes that we hadn’t made in a long time and she mentioned a roll-up lasagna dish that she remembered being really good. Over the years, she misplaced the recipe and was wondering where she might find a copy. She said that it was called something like Garfield’s Roll-Up Lasagna.

Wine, dine and stay in style in the ‘middle of nowhere’ Closer to home is the inaugural wine event at Pursell Farms. Pursell Farms Vine & Dine runs on two concurrent nights, May 24 and 25. Each night includes an overnight stay and use of the facilities that spill out over 3,500 acres in the “middle of nowhere” — the owner’s description, not mine.
So berry delicious Strawberries — fresh-picked, vine-ripened strawberries — are showing up now at local farmers’ markets and pick-your-own strawberry farms.
My daughter and I recently went picking at C. Watts Farm in Munford, and in a half-hour we had picked two gallons of red, ripe berries. Not a flavorless one or a mushy one in the bunch.
Palate Pleasers for Mom A tapas-style meal made up of a variety of small, appetizer-like bites is something we tend to associate with evenings and cocktails. An old favorite still sets the bar high At one time or another, Franciscan has been in the hands of some of the most prestigious names in the industry, who set the bar quite high. Franciscan operates as an independent winery within the Constellation Brands conglomerate. Winemaking is now in the hands of Janet Myers, who became director of winemaking in 2003. She still sources fruit for Franciscan wines from the premium vineyard land that made up part of the original Franciscan holdings in Oakville.
Franciscan produces an array of fine wines in all price ranges.
Oxford Farmers Market kicks off this weekend The inaugural season of the Oxford Farmers Market kicks off Saturday in the south parking lot of JC Penney’s at Quintard Mall. Cookbook will remind you of Grandma’s kitchen These recipes, contributed by grandchildren across the country, are truly classics upon which many wonderful memories have been built. When I started reading this cookbook, I couldn’t seem to put it down. There is a whole section devoted to breakfast, an important meal in the South. I have heard for years about tomato gravy but have never tasted it. Now that I have the recipe, tomorrow morning’s breakfast might be Tomato Breakfast Gravy with hot biscuits. I may also include Grandmother Caldwell’s Petite Coffee Cakes.
Federal-Mogul team leader likes country life Brenda Farmer likes her job as team leader at Federal-Mogul. What she likes even better though, is going home at the end of the day to her house that sits on 64 acres adjoining the Talladega National Forest in Rabbittown.
