Anniston police were investigating this morning an argument that reportedly led to a woman being choked Tuesday night.

Anniston police Capt. Allen George said a 41-year-old woman told police she and her 47-year-old boyfriend had an argument Tuesday around 7 p.m. The incident occurred at the victim’s home on the 3900 block of Old Birmingham Highway, according to a police report.

George said that during the argument, the man put his hands around the victim’s neck and choked her. The woman pushed the suspect away, George said, and ran outside to call police.

The suspect fled before police arrived, George said. The woman refused medical treatment, but told officers she wanted to pursue charges.

George said police were investigating the incident today.

Any suspect could be charged with domestic violence by strangulation, a felony.
