Let’s examine the implications of what Edward Snowden has exposed. The National Security Agency (which more aptly means “National Spying Agency” than “National Security Agency,” because “spying” is fact while “security” is opinion) now intercepts all the electronic communication of us commoners and those millionaires (that’s President Obama, Speaker John Boehner, Rep. Nancy Pelosi, Rep. Mike Rogers, etc. — the people who run the government).

Grant me that the millionaires are imperfectly human: The NSA can therefore blackmail them. And since communication goes both ways, if the NSA can blackmail, it can also frame. Ergo, the NSA controls our government; there has been a bloodless coup: We can no longer trust that our “leaders” are reasoning objectively based on our — the “people’s” — interests.

It’s time to man the barricades, or, in 21st century parlance, the firewalls. Can we trust any politician who defends NSA spying? I won’t. I call on our leaders to denounce, defund and dismantle the NSA. They have made a pact with the devil and wagered our democracy in the bargain.
