The Alabama Department of Veterans’ Affairs reassures veterans and their families that services provided by the state agency will continue despite the federal government shutdown.

All VA medical facilities and clinics will remain fully operational, including inpatient and outpatient care, and other special care services. Veteran claims processing and payments in the compensation, pension, education and vocational rehabilitation programs will also continue through late October. The shutdown will have an immediate impact on some services such as the closing of national VA call centers, discontinuing claims appeals and public awareness activities.

For Alabama veterans, the state VA remains operational with services continuing at the county service offices, veterans homes and state veterans cemetery at Spanish Fort.
