JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State softball team scored three runs in the first inning and never looked back in a 5-0 win today over Tennessee State. It capped a three-game sweep for the Gamecocks in their first Ohio Valley Conference series of the season.

JSU senior Kelci Johnston went 2-for-3 with four RBIs, and junior Tiffany Harbin tossed a complete-game shutout to lead the Gamecocks (16-10, 3-0 OVC) to a series sweep in their conference opener for the third straight year. They have now won 12 straight against the Tigers (9-19, 0-3 OVC) and are now 25-3 in the all-time series with TSU.

Just one day after Harbin (9-4) no-hit the Tigers in the series opener, she went to work again. She held the Tigers hitless for the first two innings today before a two-out infield single in the third inning broke up any chance at another no-hitter. She allowed six hits in seven innings but struck out 10 batters in her eighth complete game and third shutout of the season.

Johnston got things going for JSU in the first inning with a two-out, bases-clearing bloop double to right that plated three runs and gave the Gamecocks an early 3-0 lead.

Senior Jessica Guy and senior Krystal Ruth each went 2-for-4 in the win, while sophomore Sara Borders belted her OVC-leading 11th double of the season and scored two runs in a 1-for-3 afternoon.

JSU will play a non-conference game at Georgia State on Tuesday. The first pitch is set for 4 p.m.
