The Anniston City Meeting Center was the venue for the 2012 D.D. Club formal, which was held the evening of Nov. 21. The theme of “Rocking around the Christmas Tree” set a fun, festive mood, as did the girls’ decorations of greenery, white lights and red and green ribbons.

Prior to the formal, the girls and their escorts enjoyed an intimate dinner. The couples chatted and dug into a yummy meal prepared by Alexander’s while surrounded by poinsettias, glowing candles and ribbons of red, green and gold — all courtesy of Deborah Westbrook, whose daughter, Katherine Westbrook, is president of the D.D. Club this year.

Other officers include Ali Morris, vice-president; Ashton Shropshire, secretary; Mallory Haynes, treasurer; Emily Schaefer, co-treasurer; Calli Boyles, service project coordinator; Emily Rogers, historian; Cowan Angell, chaplain; Anna Turner, sergeant-at-arms; and Caroline LaFollette, pledge advisor chairman. Alayna Hancock, Georgia Sedmak, and Madison Murray serve as pledge advisors.

The club, founded as a drama and art club at Anniston High School some 84 years ago, is now a community service high school sorority that includes girls from various schools throughout Calhoun County.

Ribbon Girls (eighth-grade girls selected to begin the lead-out) were Katie Brown, Maren Christian, Regen Crosby, Leah Dugger, Abby Emerson, Kaleigh Ford, Madi Goodgame, Abbey Greenwood, Brittany Harper, Tanner Hayes, Sonny Jenkins, Celia Landers, Berit Lovelady, Sarah Lumpkin, Breezy Mauter, Madison McCartney, Carol Grace Meehan, Harris Owsley, Regan Phillis, Anna Pollard, Sarah Slick, Taylor Spence, Reagan Stallings, Peyton Suco and Olivia Turner.

Jon Holder of Grace Radio, TV-24 and Pigskin Roundup once again lent his talents, filling the role of emcee for the evening, as did Brandon “DJ Well Done” Dunn, who provided the music.

During lead-out, Ellen Bass was recognized for her 21 years of service as club advisor! Danielle Bolton received a plaque and roses as she was named “Pledge of the Year.”

The club also welcomed its newest members to its ranks with a lovely blue-and-white Christmas ornament, made by Ali Morris and Emily Schaefer. The new members — all 10th grade girls — include Brooklyn Boyles, pledge class president; Kelsey Adcock, vice-president; Anna Kerper, secretary; Lydia Pass, sergeant-at-arms; Sarah Dawson, historian; Nina Bidikov, Hannah Christian, Michelle Crow, Ashton Gaddy, Madison Huckaby, Peyton McGuirk, Raegan Medders, Jordan Ray, Kristen Rothwell, Anna Sides, Stephanie Spoon, Macy Stratton and Carlee Waits.

The club’s 11th grade members are Madison Burroughs, Kristen Chandler, Callye Cobb, Sarah Holcombe, Ariana Johnson, Hallie Kulick, Sela Miles, Autumn Miller, Darsey Norton, Anna Brooke Payne, Corey Phillis and Rylee Segrest.

Seniors attending their last formal included Alex Woodfin, Lauren Rothwell, Erin Phillis, Savanna Marion, Samantha Kerper, Esther Grubbe and Adele Fink. Savanna Simpson, also a senior, was not able to attend.

Home for the holidays, and helping with the event, were former D.D. Club members Lauren Bass, now a student at the University of Alabama, and Brooklyn Slick, who attends the University of South Alabama.
