Lt. Col. Lowell Dean Shackelford assumed command May 15, 2011, of the 1184th DDSB. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Faulkner University and a master’s degree in emergency management from Jacksonville State University. He received his commission through the Officer Candidate School.

Shackelford has held numerous staff and leadership positions including 377 DSC G7 section; second National Police Division Transition team logistical advisor; battalion XO; Agency Headquarters commander; Company executive officer; plans and program officer and platoon leader.

Lt. Col. Shackelford’s military schooling includes engineer officer basic course, transportation officer advanced course, combined Arms Staff and Services School and Command and General Staff College. His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star medal; Army commendation medal and with two oak leaf clusters; Army Advancement service medal; Overseas Service ribbon; Army Reserve Components Achievement medal; Army Reserve Training Overseas ribbon; Armed Forces Reserve medal W/M training device and Combat Action badge.

Shackelford’s civilian occupation is the recruiting operations officer at Jacksonville State University. He and his wife, the former Trina Pitts, have one son Corey, age 21, who is a junior at Auburn and a daughter, Meghan, age 18, who is a sophomore at Jacksonville State University.
