Prep volleyball roundup: Oxford sweeps Gadsden City

OXFORD — The Lady Yellow Jackets swept Gadsden City on Thursday 25-14, 25-22 and 25-18.

Lexie Higgins led the way for Oxford, finishing with 10 kills, 10 digs and three aces. Morgan Whaley added 19 assists, seven digs and an ace. Makenzie Trantham and Sara Connell had seven kills each.

Oxford ( 6-3) plays in the Magic City Classic on Saturday.

Donoho 3, Faith Christian 0 — At Donoho, the Lady Falcons swept Faith Christian in a Class 1A, Area 6 matchup 25-10, 25-11 and 25-17.

Corey Phillis led Donoho with 12 kills, seven digs and three aces. Rylee Segrest chipped in with 16 assists, four digs and an ace.

Jordan Ray added nine assists, Madison Huckaby had nine digs and Camryn Swain finished with four aces.

The Lady Falcons (11-2) host the Donoho Classic on Saturday.

Jacksonville 2, Boaz 1; Jacksonville 2, Oneonta 0; Jacksonville 2, Arab 0 — At Oneonta, the Lady Golden Eagles picked up three wins, knocking off Boaz (22-25, 25-20, 15-13), Oneonta (25-14, 25-20) and Arab (25-21, 25-23).

Ashley Clingan finished the night with 64 assists. Katie Neisler added 35 kills and 15 digs.

Halee Stallings had 19 kills, four aces and six blocks. Tamaria Mays chipped in with 18 kills and 11 blocks and Darrien Martin added 10 kills and five digs.

Jacksonville (10-3) plays in the Brooks tournament Saturday.

Pleasant Valley 2, Piedmont 0; Pleasant Valley 2, White Plains 0; White Plains 3, Piedmont 1 — At Piedmont, balanced offense carried Pleasant Valley past Piedmont and White Plains. The Raiders defeated Piedmont 25-10, 25-23 and White Plains 26-24, 25-13.

Kaylee Benefield paced the Raiders with 14 kills. Taylor Cochran recorded 13 kills, Holly Stewart 11 while Cammie Cochran and Jordan Moorer had nine kills apiece. Moorer also had six service aces. Setter Bailey Turner had 34 assists. Libero Anna Bryant contributed 27 digs and Turner added 20 digs for the Raiders (6-8).

For Piedmont, Riesha Thompson led with 16 kills on the day and Carlie Flowers had 15 kills. Ashlynne Rivers served five aces and Mallory Roberts had 26 assists. White Plains downed Piedmont in area play 29-27, 12-25, 25-23, 25-17.

Piedmont opens play in the Cedar Bluff tournament Saturday against Sardis. Pleasant Valley plays in the Donoho Classic tournament Saturday.

Ohatchee 3, Victory Christian 0 — At Ohatchee, the Lady Indians swept Victory Christian 25-7, 25-8, 25-10.

Silver Miller and Joria Steger totaled 11 kills in the first set for Ohatchee, while Mattie Coger had 12 assists.
