Anniston police Tuesday were investigating an alleged assault in which a man was struck in the face with a shovel Monday, according to a police report.

The 28-year-old victim was working on the 800 block of Museum Drive in LaGarde Park Monday when he got into an argument with another male, Anniston police Capt. Allen George said. During the argument the suspect struck the victim in the head with a trenching shovel, the captain said.

George said the victim called police to file a report and was treated at Regional Medical Center for his injuries Monday. The victim suffered from a cut on his forehead that required 10 stitches. George said Tuesday he did not know the victim’s condition.

The victim told police Monday he didn’t know who the other man was and George said the victim did not say whether they worked together.

George said the victim will press charges against the suspect, who could face felony charges of second-degree assault.
