Anniston police arrested five juveniles on charges of third-degree burglary and attempting to elude officers Saturday morning.

According to Anniston police Capt. Allen George, the suspects broke into Saks Elementary School and Saks High School.

According to George, a witness who lives near Saks Elementary School said he saw three people walking around the school between 2 a.m. and 3:21 a.m.

The witness said he believed there might have been a break-in at the school because he saw a light on inside the building, the captain said.

George said when police arrived they saw five boys, ages 13 to 16, coming out of the high school gymnasium.

When the officers told the boys to stop, they fled, the captain said. George said police chased them and all five were apprehended.

George said he suspected the boys got into the schools through the skylights. The skylights were not broken, but ceiling tiles in the elementary school had been damaged and the suspects had attempted to steal two fire extinguishers from the high school, George said.

All five were arrested Saturday on charges of felony third-degree burglary and attempting to elude officers, the captain said.
