Police today were investigating two Anniston shootings that occurred early this morning and are believed to be related.

Anniston police Capt. Allen George said officers were called to a home on the 1300 block of Johnston Drive at 2:15 a.m. after a resident reported hearing several gunshots. Police found two shell casings in the street and noticed that a gray 1999 Honda parked in a driveway had sustained several bullet holes, George said. The right rear taillight and rear bumper had $700 in damage, according to a police report.

George said police also noticed four bullet holes in a home and later spoke to the 37-year-old homeowner.

“The resident said she’d heard gunshots but didn’t think anything of it,” George said.

The woman later discovered a mirror on her dresser was broken. The woman was the only one in the home during the shooting, George said, and was not injured. Her home sustained $1,100 worth of damage, according to the report.

A second shooting was reported several minutes later on the 1500 block of Bacon Avenue, located off of Johnston Drive. George said a 34-year-old woman called police after she was awakened by the sound of gunshots.

Police found eight bullet holes in the woman’s home, George said. The house sustained $850 in damage, the police report noted.

George said officers found 11 shell casings in the street and a partial bullet fragment on the woman’s living room floor. The woman was not injured during the shooting.

George said police had no suspects this morning. The captain said because the shootings occurred in proximity and during the same time period, they were most likely related.

Any suspects could be charged with felony discharging a firearm into a building or vehicle.
