Anniston police Sgt. Chris Sparks said the teen’s mother reported the incident to police Tuesday.
Sparks said the teen sent a nude photo of herself to her teenage friends between May and June. The sergeant was uncertain how many people had viewed the photo because the message had been forwarded to many people since the original message was sent.
Sparks said parents need to educate their children regarding the consequences of texting inappropriate photos.
“They don’t think about the long-term consequences. It’s not something that will go away. It will affect them the rest of their lives,” Sparks said.
Sparks said police would follow up with all the teens involved and that prosecution will be at the discretion of the Calhoun County District Attorney’s Office.
Those involved could be charged with disseminating child pornography, a felony.
