PV, JHS athletes qualify for state

Both Pleasant Valley and Jacksonville High School had many athletes qualify for state at the Sectional Meets held last week.

The Class 1-3A state meet will be held at Selma Memorial Stadium. Class 4-6A will take place at Gulf Shores Municipal Track. Both events are scheduled to take place May 3-4.

For Pleasant Valley, those who qualified with great performances at Sectionals are:

Matthew Bonds: Who was named 2A Section 3 MVP-  Won the 3200, 1600, 800.

Boys 4X800 Team won 1st place  (Todd Kirk, Matt Bonds, Quinton Thornton, Nick Robbins).

Todd Kirk: 2nd 1600, and 3rd in 3200.

Quinton Thornton 5th 3200.

Boys 4X400 team (Lucas Ford, Ben Carter, Nick Robbins, Tucker Vernon).

Ethan Lambert 4th in Discus.

Austin Tate 2nd in high jump and 3rd in long jump.

Rachel Faucett 3rd in 1600, and 3rd in 3200.

Destiny Parker 2nd in discus.

Jordan Alford 3rd in discus.

The Golden Eagles who qualified for state and their events are:

Girls:

Jazzmyn McLendon - 100, 100H, 4X100; Tatiyana Thomas - 4X100; Kelsey Ervin - 4X100; Essence Byars - 4X100; Elizabeth Keefer – 1600;

Rebecca Hearn – 3200; Malieah Patterson - 300H

Boys

Ben Pryor - 800, 1600, 3200; Alex Rowan – Discus; Reid Hobbs – Javelin

JHS also might be sending a wildcard team to the meet. The state will look at the times of each section in 4A and will allow one team from each event to go as a wildcard. JHS is in consideration for the 4x400.

Each JHS team placed 7th at Sectionals.
