It doesn’t take long to discover what Weaver's Austin Jennings is thinking about this week.

The Bearcats return to the Class 3A football playoffs after missing the cut last week, and the accomplishment has Jennings buzzing.

But football isn’t the only thing that describes Jennings, a safety and wide receiver who has four touchdown catches this year.

The senior will be a third-year starter on the baseball team this spring. He also will be moving from outfield to second base. But, similar to plenty of high school students in this football state, Jennings prefers the pigskin more.

Away from the field, Jennings likes watching football, but he also is a big fan of movies, especially comedies. He lists Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd as his two favorite actors, and Luke Bryan is his favorite singer.

Jennings is set to graduate from Weaver in May and afterward wants to continue his football career, but he’s not sure where that will be. He does know he wants to major in physical therapy or coaching, though. Right now, he has visited Faulkner, Birmingham-Southern and LaGrange (Ga.) College with football in mind, but said his dream school is Jacksonville State.

Recently, Jennings took a break before practice to talk with Anniston Star sports writer Brandon Miller and answer 10 questions.

Question: How does it feel to be back in the playoffs?

Answer: Great. We missed out last year, and I didn’t actually get to play Hamilton the first time we went. I’ll actually get to this time.

Q: Do you have a talent not many people know about?

A: Ping pong. We have one behind the gym, and after we get done working out, that’s right where we go to. Timothy Hawkins is probably the best player on the team.

Q: Who is Weaver’s biggest rivalry?

A: Saks. It’s a crosstown rivaly. We know every player, basically. It’s kind of been back and forth before the past two years.

Q: Who has the best uniform in college football?

A: Oregon. I like the variety. I would love to play in those uniforms.

Q: What’s something that you’re looking forward to in general?

A: Playoffs. Getting a shot to win state, hopefully. You have no idea how hard I worked during the offseason. Sometimes I’d work out twice a day and be at the school running at 8 a.m.

Q: What sport would you like to try?

A: Hockey. It’s about like football except on ice.

Q: Who’s your favorite coach on the staff?

A: It’s hard to say. There’s not one coach that I really dislike. They’re all good to me. Coach (Shane) Morrow seems to be the more X and O guy. Coach (Daryl) Hamby motivates us more.

Q: What’s your dream position to play?

A: I’d like to move to quarterback. I used to play quarterback when I was in little league, but was moved to receiver three years ago. I like that everybody depends on you and you have to know what everyone on the field is going to do.

Q: Where do you like to go on vacation?

A: Panama City. That’s just where I always go. There are a ton of people there.

Q: What’s the best thing about this Weaver team?

A: How hard we fight. Since we’re so small we have to make up for it somewhere, and that’s where we make up for it.
