No one was home this morning when a fire started in the kitchen of a house at 2826 McKleroy Ave.

Anniston fire Capt. Ray Thompson said firefighters received a call at 10:17 a.m. from a man walking near the residence. Thompson said that when firefighters arrived, they saw smoke coming from vents on top of the cream-and-brown, one-story home. It took 15 minutes for firefighters to bring the blaze under control, Thompson said.

Thompson said the fire was still under investigation this morning, but he believed it started because of something left on the stove. The house sustained moderate smoke and heat damage, the captain said.

Firefighters were waiting for the residents to return to the house just after 11 a.m.
