A Mississippi man died from a gunshot wound Thursday at Regional Medical Center in Anniston, and the Georgia woman who was driving him was arrested on drug and weapons charges.

The victim had not been identified late Thursday evening. Oxford Police Lt. L.G. Owens said in a press release that the man’s family had not yet been notified.

Oxford police received a call at 2:05 a.m. Thursday from a worker at Waffle House on Jimmy Hinton Drive of a possible gunshot victim in the business’ parking lot, Owens said.

Police found a 32-year-old male from Jackson, Miss., with a single gunshot wound to the abdomen. The victim was taken to RMC where he died at 10:15 a.m. Thursday, Owens said.

Emily Nicole Hooker, 25, of Jefferson, Ga. was driving the car the victim was riding in, Owens said. Hooker told police the man was shot at an unspecified location in Warner Robbins, Ga.

Oxford police arrested Hooker, charging her with trafficking in methamphetamine and possession of a pistol without a permit. She was being held in the Oxford City Jail Thursday. Her bond was set at $50,000. She is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 21.

Warner Robbins police are investigating a homicide there that may be related to Hooker’s drug charges, according to the press release.
