In a photo of Lacy running a pass route during training camp, the Packers’ second-round draft choice looks like he gained about 100 pounds over his playing weight at Alabama. He has turned back to look for the pass, and the way his body was contorted makes him look like he swallowed a backup linebacker.
In other practice pictures from this week, he looked like he typically does – 230 pounds on his 5-foot-11 frame. That one “fat” photo obviously was taken at a bad angle for Lacy, but even so, it set fire to the Twitter world.
Maybe that’s a sign of how little we have to talk about, even as football season grows closer. Instead of letting all the photos speak for themselves, we insist on spending time on Twitter going over and over them, either saying Lacy is overweight or defending him from those who question his conditioning.
In the end, it’s a waste of time. Lacy doesn’t appear out of shape or too heavy for an NFL running back. He’s fine. And once the games start, he likely will be more than fine for the Packers, who need a quality running back like Lacy, no matter what he weighs.
