Is it Sept. 14 yet?

That's the day Alabama plays at Texas A&M. The Southeastern Conference announced Wednesday that CBS has picked up that game for national broadcast. Kickoff will be at 2:30 p.m., and I wish it was today.

Heck, I'm ready for college football: How much can Auburn rebound from last year's 3-9 season, will Georgia or Florida win the SEC East, can Tennessee become relevant again, and is Vanderbilt really for real?

But I'm especially looking forward to Sept. 14 when the Crimson Tide gets a rematch with Johnny Football. Alabama suffered its only loss last year when Texas A&M and Johnny Manziel won 29-24 in Tuscaloosa on Nov. 10. The Crimson Tide was coming off a brutal game at LSU, escaping with a 21-17 win. It clearly didn't come into the Texas A&M contest ready to play. Even so, Alabama nearly won -- and probably would have, except for some puzzling play-calling near the goal line in the closing minutes.

Still, Manziel isn't a fluke. Neither is Texas A&M, which seems to have escaped Texas' shadow by joining the SEC and carving its own path. Also, the rematch isn't in Tuscaloosa -- it's at Kyle Field at Texas A&M.

This will be Alabama's second game of the year, and the Tide's defense likely will need more time than that to rebuild.

Manziel and Texas A&M were gracious winners last time and were public in their support of Alabama when it played Notre Dame for the national title. The Crimson Tide was gracious in return. That mutual respect makes the Sept. 14 rematch even more interesting.
