A man turned himself in Wednesday at the Anniston Police Department on charges related to an assault with a shovel earlier this week.

Michael Randall Taylor Jr., 35, of Ashland, was charged with second-degree assault, a felony, according to a police report.

Taylor hit a 28-year-old man with a shovel Monday on the 800 block of Museum Drive in LaGarde Park, according to Anniston police Capt. Allen George. The victim, who was doing work for a plumbing company at the time of the incident, told police he did not know Taylor.

George told The Star earlier this week that Taylor and the victim got into an argument, and the suspect hit the man in the head with a trenching shovel.

The victim was treated at Regional Medical Center for a cut on his forehead, which required 10 stitches.

Taylor was released from Anniston City Jail on a $7,500 bond, 20 minutes after he turned himself in, George said.

A court appearance for Taylor is scheduled for Aug. 5.
