The victim told police he had been walking down the 800 block of Lenlock Lane on April 26 when Brian Kelley, 21, of Anniston, got out of a white Ford Explorer and started cursing at him, Anniston police Capt. Allen George said.
George said the victim told police he knew Kelley, and Kelley accused the victim of stealing from him. The victim said Kelley then punched him four times in the face, the captain said.
According to George, a witness driving down Lenlock Lane saw a woman run across the road to pull Kelley off the victim. The witness said there were two other women in the car when they drove off, the captain said.
The victim was taken to RMC for treatment for his injuries, which included a cut lip, a bruised cheek and two of his teeth had been knocked out, George said.
The victim was able to identify Kelley through his driver’s license photo, George said.
Kelley was released from the Anniston City Jail on a $5,000 bond Wednesday, according to a police report.
George said he could not clarify why Kelley was arrested two months after the incident occurred. However, George said arrest warrants often take some time.
The captain also said he did not know the circumstances of Kelley’s arrest.
