The Piedmont Public Library began their Summer Reading Program last week with many wonderful programs.

On Tuesday, children met at the Library, then had a rope walk to the next street to visit The Learning Farm.

The staff and Board of Sunrise Organics treated the kids to organic snacks and story time under the trees, followed by a special time of planting vegetables in their very own garden.

On Thursday, story and crafts at the Library was the main event. Kids were invited to listen to “Diary of a Worm,” and then made and enjoyed “dirt cups” and gummy worms.

Friday was the big event: a magic show with magician Steve Burgess and his pal Maynard the Dodo Bird. Kids enjoyed magic and music as Mr. Burgess had many great tricks to share, including some involving a live rabbit and dove!

Volunteers from the audience were given the honor of assisting with some of the illusions. A fun time was had by all.

The Summer Reading Program continues this week and through July 13th. A full calendar of events is available at the Library and registration is still open. Toddlers through those aged 18 are welcome to join the program!
