Drivers on I-20 can expect delays this month due to roadways being temporarily narrowed to one lane. Beginning tonight, the I-20 eastbound and westbound lanes between mile markers 206 and 209 in Cleburne County will be reduced.

Weather permitting, Alabama Department of Transportation construction will take place between 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. until the work is complete. Construction on the outside shoulder and lane on each side of the interstate will reduce traffic to one lane from Heflin to the Tallapoosa River. The narrowed roadway will be in effect until repairs to the shoulder and outside lane can be made.

ALDOT’s construction will add lanes to I-20 and strengthen the shoulders to accept traffic while construction is under way. During the project, speed limit will be reduced to 55 mph. According to ALDOT, motorists can expect delays and should consider taking alternate routes, adjust arrival/departure times, and observe work zone speed limits and other work zone signs.
