CHARLESTON, Ill. – Jacksonville State softball ace Tiffany Harbin became the school's all-time strikeouts leader Saturday, but the Gamecocks dropped both games in an Ohio Valley Conference doubleheader at league-leading Eastern Illinois.

Harbin entered the day just one strikeout shy of Ann Shelton's career record, which was set in 1995-96, and she broke the mark with the first two outs of the first inning. She pitched a complete game, but JSU fell 3-2. In the second game, the Panthers won 10-0.

Harbin tied Shelton at 635 by getting Panthers leadoff hitter Melise Brown on four pitches and then set the new mark with a seven-pitch strike out of Hannah Cole. She went the distance for her 14th complete game in 23 starts and struck out five to run her school-record total to 639. She held the first-place Panthers to three runs on six hits but fell to their Hannah Mennenga in a pitcher's duel.

Mennenga struck out 16 JSU batters and allowed two runs on five hits to grab the win.

The Gamecocks went into the seventh trailing 3-0, but a leadoff walk by sophomore Savannah Sloan set up a two-run home run from senior Kelci Johnston that cut their deficit to one run. Mennenga was able to get the next three batters and secure the win.

The Panthers (30-11, 17-2 OVC) jumped on the Gamecocks in the first inning of game two, when they got nine runs to grab early command of the game. Stephanie Maday held JSU to just two hits and handed the Gamecocks their first shutout since a 3-0 loss to No. 2 Alabama on Feb. 12 of 2012.

The Gamecocks (24-21, 9-9) will make a quick turnaround to play a doubleheader at Southern Illinois-Edwardsville today at 1 p.m.
