The accident, involving a tractor trailer and another vehicle occurred at 4:43 p.m. today on I-20, in a construction zone at mile marker 191 near Golden Springs, according to an email from the Alabama State Troopers’ post in Jacksonville. No injuries were reported. The wreck has caused a “major diesel fuel leak” from the tractor trailer tank, the email said.
Jonathan Gaddy, Calhoun County Emergency Management Agency director, said he has been contacted about the spill and is working with the Oxford Fire Department.
Gaddy said the next step taken by the EMA will depend on “the nature of the leak and how much fuel is released.”
Gaddy said the EMA will work with the company involved to make cleanup arrangements.
Oxford fire Chief Gary Sparks said he was not at the scene and was still waiting for a call with details on the accident and spill Monday evening.
