Handley High graduate Brad Bozeman’s plans for the fall changed drastically Tuesday morning.

Alabama assistant coach Bobby Williams informed him he would be joining the team now, rather than delaying enrollment to January.

The call came just in time, considering preseason practice starts Friday.

“I’m really excited. I’m ready to get up there,” the 6-foot-5, 305-pound offensive lineman said. “I’ve been waiting on this for a good while now. I’m ready to get some action.

“Today as soon as I got the call I got ready, all my stuff packed up and headed home from Birmingham, where I’m living now. I’m going to get everything situated at home and head up to T-Town tomorrow.”

Bozeman's senior season at Handley was cut short because of a torn knee ligament in Week 5, and as he recovered, Alabama's coaches asked him to gray shirt, which means he would delay his enrollment.

Instead, circumstances apparently have changed at Alabama in regards to the Tide's scholarship limits, allowing the team to bring in Bozeman with the rest of the 2013 recruiting class.

Bozeman’s original plan included working out five days a week and working at Ross Bridge Golf Course in Birmingham, which could provide a transition to the lifestyle of a Southeastern Conference player. However, Bozeman simply said, “I’m ready.”

Handley coach Mike Battle said he thinks Bozeman will do well at Alabama.

“He did a great job in high school and they’ve got a good one," Battles said. "He’ll fit right in there.”
