The Alabama Accountability Act signed into law last month has not been without controversy. The basic premise is that parents of children in "failing" school districts can receive tuition assistance in attending a private school or another public school.

Many are critical and others are just confused about the fine details

Whether you are a proponent or opponent, the act has touched a nerve.

In considering a school voucher plan, Tennessee's Legislature has created an even bigger stir.

A pair of proposals rapidly moving through the Tennessee General Assembly could potentially divert tax dollars currently allocated to public schools to Islamic private schools, and two Rutherford County senators are raising concerns about the legislation.“This is an issue we must address,” state Sen. Jim Tracy (R-Shelbyville) said. “I don’t know whether we can simply amend the bill in such a way that will fix the issue at this point.”

For all the conversation about the state's Accountability Act, we've not heard anyone advocating religious bigotry.
