The saying, “when guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns,” is a truism, not just a cliché. A relatively late example is the good-old U.S. Wild West. When everyone got a six-shooter, or Winchester, to protect themselves, any need for “gun control” never materialized. If criminals know or think a gun is available to those they’d like to harm, they don’t.

Guns are not contemptible, people are — particularly the “do-gooders” who wish to bury their heads in he sand and expect others to do the same. He who wishes to control the people, and ultimately the world, must control the guns. Surprisingly, President Obama comes to mind.

Gun control is, and should be, a states-rights issue, not a federal government issue, except from the standpoint of national interests against a foreign adversary, not internal or domestic.
