The City of Jacksonville and East Alabama Regional Planning and Development Commission have begun work on a Comprehensive Plan or a “Master Plan” for Jacksonville. Our last “Plan” was in 1991. For the next three years planners at East Alabama will look at all aspects of our city from utilities, economic development, land use to zoning boundaries. At the end of the three years they will provide our city leaders with a document which will give a picture of what Jacksonville may be like in 10 to 20 years.

It is vital that the residents of Jacksonville be involved in this process.

On April 16 a public comment hearing was held; unfortunately, only a hand full of citizens attended. Meetings have been scheduled for the next three years; the next one is at 6 p.m. on May 21 at the Jacksonville Community Center. Please attend; your input is a very important part of the planning process.

East Alabama staffers handed out a Community Values Questionnaire at the first meeting. Copies can be downloaded at the City of Jacksonville web site or picked up at City Hall, the Jacksonville Library or the Community Center. Your completed form can be returned to City Hall or to East Alabama Regional Planning and Development staff.  Please get one and fill it out before the next meeting.

This is our town; this is an important undertaking. Get involved please. Jacksonville’s future  depends on you!
