Police today were investigating a report that an employee of an Anniston gas station stole from the business.

Anniston police Capt. Allen George said a cashier at the Kangaroo Express on the 800 block of South Quintard Avenue was selling merchandise to customers, but not using the cash register and pocketing the money. A police report shows the theft occurred from Jan. 13 to May 13. The woman reportedly stole $1,000 from the business, the report stated.

George said today the theft was still under investigation and police were reviewing video surveillance.

The captain was uncertain if the woman was still employed by the gas station.

A suspect could face charges of second-degree theft, a felony, according to the police report.
