An Ohatchee woman told authorities last week that her stepfather sexually abused her 12 years ago, and she’s concerned he may do the same to her 4-year-old daughter.

Matthew Wade, chief deputy at the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, said the 24-year-old woman told deputies the abuse began in January 2001 when she was 13.

A report from the Sheriff’s Office states the abuse continued until January 2006. Wade said the victim moved out of the home on Kirkey’s Bend in Ohatchee, but that her stepfather and mother currently have custody of her 4-year-old daughter.

The Calhoun-Cleburne Children’s Center, the Department of Human Resources and the Sheriff’s Office are still investigating the case, Wade said Wednesday morning.

A suspect will likely face charges of first-degree sexual abuse and sexual abuse of a child younger than 12, both felonies.
