Cheaha Creative Arts, Inc., a fine arts after-school program in Anniston, will host an orchestral performance by its students Saturday at the Anniston Performing Arts Center.

The event, which will cost $10 for adults and $5 for children, will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Musical, theatrical and dance performances from other local organizations will also be featured.

All money raised by the event will support the Cheaha Creative Arts' educational programs.

"A lot of people still say they don't know about our program," said Rose Munford, president of Cheaha Creative Arts. "This is our way to showcase who we are and what we're doing."

Cheaha Creative Arts, housed in the historic Kilby House on Woodstock Avenue, was formed in 2010 to provide fine arts education to city students at a low cost. The program offers classes for violin, piano, sewing and art. The program keeps its student enrollment fees low because most of its funding comes from donations and grants, including annual $5,000 donations from Solutia Inc. in Anniston and from the Anniston City Council, Munford said.

Munford said the Saturday event will be the first major performance of its orchestral students.

"The long-term goal when we first formed was to train enough children to start a community orchestra," Munford said.

Munford said the program has eight local high-school and elementary-school students who will play several pieces of classical orchestral music on either the violin or piano. Other performers include the local theatrical group C.A.S.T. and the Etowah Youth Orchestra.

"I just wish and hope and pray that everyone comes out for the performance," Munford said.
