Leon Sidney BrownFuneral service for Leon Sidney Brown, 88, were Monday, January 18, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Hatcher Avenue Baptist Church with the Revs. Jimmy Ford and Larry Gardner officiating. Burial was in White's Gap Cemetery with K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center directing services. Mr. Brown died Friday, January 15, 2010, at his residence.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Conner Brown, of Jacksonville; three sons, Randall L. Brown and his wife, Pat, of Jacksonville, Ricky L. Brown and his wife, Margaret, of Lawrenceville, and Rodney A. Brown, of Jacksonville; three daughters, Marie C. Cupp and her husband, Junie, of Anniston, Vickie C. Morgan and her husband, Darrell, of Houston, Texas and Dawn C. Young and her husband, Royce, of Brilliant; a brother, Hoyt D. Brown and his wife, Dot, of Piedmont; 18 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Steve Brown, Chris Brown, Rickie Brown, Kenny Brown, Glenn Cupp, Steffan Young and Hannon Hardy. Honorary pallbearers were the Deacon Board of Hatcher Avenue Baptist Church.
Mr. Brown was an avid bird hunter and enjoyed vegetable gardening. He was a 50-year member of Hiram Lodge #42 F&AM and served his country in the U.S. Army in World War II. He loved attending church and was a member of Hatcher Avenue Baptist Church since the 1960s. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rosalee Brown; his father; mother; daughter; two sisters; three brothers and two grandchildren. Edna Olivia BurrowsFuneral services for Edna Olivia Burrows, 70, were at 2 p.m. Friday, January 15, 2010, at K.L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center Chapel, in Jacksonville, with the Rev. Larry Gardner officiating. Burial was in Whites Gap Cemetery. Mrs. Burrows died Monday, January 11, 2010, at Jacksonville Health & Rehab.
She is survived by her two sons, Tony (Rita) Williams, of Weaver, and Jeffery Parris, of Wedowee; two sisters, Fannie Allen and Mary Johnson, both of Jacksonville; three brothers, Floyd Williams, of Piedmont, Lender (Helen) Williams and David (Shirley) Williams, both of Jacksonville; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Jesse Barksdale, Kenneth Cochran, Donnie Williams, Glenn Johnson, Terry Allen and Jerry Allen.
Mrs. Burrows was a lifelong resident of Calhoun County. She was a member of Hatcher Avenue Baptist Church and the Joy Sunday School Class. Mrs. Burrows loved gospel singing. She worked at Jack's in Piedmont and McDonald's in Jacksonville for numerous years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jess and Letha Williams and a daughter, Lisa Tolbert. Bob Ford officiating. Burial was in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Ellis died Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at RMC in Anniston.
She is survived by her son, Jimmy W. Ellis, of Orange Beach; two grandchildren, Lisa Ellis, of Fairhope and Jeff Ellis, of Magnolia Springs; one great-granddaughter, Emilee Ellis, of Magnolia Springs; two nieces and three nephews.
Pallbearers will be Kin Logan, Brandon Pisacrita, Andy Bumpus, Bob Crossley, Ollie Noles and Nelson Mahaffey.
Mrs. Ellis was a native and lifelong resident of Jacksonville. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jacksonville where she was also a member of the Keenagers and a long time member of the Jane Self Sunday school class. Mrs. Ellis was a neighborhood mother to a lot of "her boys" and was known for helping many people after her own grief experience. She ministered to a lot of people with the good food she cooked. Mrs. Ellis was preceded in death by her husband, Waymon Ellis; her parents, Horace and Sula Stephens; one son, Roy Thomas Ellis; three sisters, Rowena Pierce, Iva Holder and Mary Whiteside; and two brothers, James and Roy Stephens. Lanny Ralph GallaharFuneral services for Lanny Ralph Gallahar were at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 14, 2010, at K.L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center Chapel, in Jacksonville, with Ken Grissom and Dr. Rodney Friery officiating. Burial was in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Mr. Gallahar died Monday, January 11, 2010, in Jacksonville after a short struggle with cancer.
Lanny was born on February 12, 1952, to Ralph and Elizabeth Gallahar of Oxford, Alabama. He graduated from Oxford High School in 1970 where he was quarterback on the football team and a forward on the basketball team. He received his Bachelors of Science degree in Education from Jacksonville State University and received his Masters of Arts degree from the University of Alabama. He taught Special Education in the Etowah County school system for 30 years. During his time there he was also a very successful coach for both the girls' basketball and softball teams. Following his retirement, he worked part time with the Special Education program at Jacksonville High School. Lanny was a gentle soul who loved animals, music, helping others, being a good friend, and was a diehard Alabama fan! He shopped at Wal-Mart in Jacksonville daily and was considered an honorary employee by many of the Wal-Mart staff. His friends and family will miss him dearly.
He is survived by his wife, Paulette Gallahar, of Jacksonville; his mother, Elizabeth Comer, of Oxford; one step-son, Chris Jenkins, of Gulf Shores; one sister, Debbie Brooks, of Oxford; one brother, Sammy Gallahar and his wife, Linda, of Jacksonville; his granddaughter, Ella Elizabeth Jenkins, of Gulf Shores; his mother-in-law, Nora Sutton, of Grant; and his brother-in-law, Warren Sutton and his wife, Cindy, of Flat Rock.
Pallbearers will be Billy Ray Robertson, Rick Glover, Mike Polk, Doug Jones, Jerre Brimer, Ronald Allsup and Johnny Floyd. Jerry Bolt officiating. Burial was at Anniston Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Ginn died Tuesday, January 12, 2010, at her residence.
Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Jerry Ginn, of Jacksonville; two daughters, Julia Lanette Stephens, of Piedmont and Freda McDaniel and husband, Ross, of Graham; two sons, Ricky Reaves and wife, Shelia, of Calhoun, Ga. and Terry Reaves, of Mobile; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Ginn is preceded in death by her parents, Allen and Sadie Cullens; sister, Juline Schroder; brothers, Henry Cullens, Leonard Cullens and Eugene Cullens; son-in-law, Bobby Stephens and granddaughter, Emily Jones.
Pallbearers were Shane McDaniel, Eric Stephens, Kenny Dishman, Matthew Johnson, Jeffrey Johnson, Brian Johnson, Phillip Johnson and Dewitt Ginn. Honorary pallbearers will be Nathan Thornhill, Blake Reaves and the staff of Wiregrass Hospice. Mrs. Ginn was a native and life long resident of Jacksonville. She was a Baptist. Miss Sexton is survived by her brothers, Wayne Sexton and wife, Carol Jo, Larry Sexton and wife, Carol Leigh; nieces and nephews, Jackie Sexton, Kari Shepard, Christy Aaron, Hope Arnold, Jeremy Sexton; great-nephews, Jacob Shepard, David Aaron, Casey Aaron, Jayme Reeves and Jayden Arnold.
Pallbearers will be family and friends. Miss Sexton was a native of Florida and resident of Jacksonville. She was employed with the Anniston Housing Authority.
