Pursell Farms hosting TomatoTASTE

Pursell Farms in Sylacauga, recently named a member of Southern Living’s Hotel Collection, is hosting the first annual TomatoTASTE 2013 this Saturday from 5-8 p.m.

The event features a tomato-infused dinner prepared by Executive Chef Andrea Griffith and tasting stations such as a build-your-own Bloody Mary bar, barbecue pit, wine tasting, specialty cheeses and artisan breads — showcasing the more than 30 varieties of tomatoes grown on the farm’s garden. The cost is $49.

Contact Beth Bagley at ebagley@pursellfarms.com or call 256-208-2051 to reserve a spot.

Show to feature Alabama cuisine

An episode of Andrew Zimmern’s “Bizarre Foods America” featuring the restaurants of Birmingham airs July 29 on the Travel Channel.

Zimmern’s January tour of Birmingham restaurants included stops at Eagle’s Restaurant, Shindigs Catering food truck, Miss Myra’s Pit Bar-B-Q, Hot and Hot Fish Club and Jim ‘N Nick’s Bar-B-Q, among others.

According to a Travel Channel publicist, the episode titled “Birmingham: The New South” will feature “unexpected twists in Southern cooking … from a Chinese style noodle bowl made with frog legs and pig skin to sauteed rabbit offal and goat head soup.” It’s scheduled to air at 8 p.m.
