LAFAYETTE — Funeral service for Bertha Mae Barber, 79, will be at 11 a.m. today from Sweet Home United Methodist Church. Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

BELL

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — James R. Bell Sr., 66, passed away Friday, August 22, 2008. He retired from the U.S. Army where he had served as an MP. He was also a Vietnam veteran and a member of the DAV. He is preceded in death by his father, James D. Bell; brother, William R. Bell; and daughter, Constance R. Bell. He is survived by his loving friend and wife of over 19 years, Claudia J. Bell; mother, Juanita Perry; children, Yvonne Gibson, Teresa Tamayo, Kathy Vernon (Kenny), Yvette Summer (Johnny), Andrea Painter, Angela Christenson, James R. Bell Jr., Travis Moore (Kathlene), John Moore and Joe Moore (Diane); brothers, Herbert T. Bell Sr., Woodrow L. Perry Sr., Ted Haynes and Tommy Potts; sisters, Deborah J. Graham and Linda J. Poindexter; 21 grandchildren; and 7 great- grandchildren. His service will be at 12 p.m. Friday at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Highway with burial in Kentucky Veterans Central Cemetery in Radcliff. Visitation will be Thursday from 10 a.m. - 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

CARTER

LINCOLN — Funeral services for Mrs. Lillian Suzanne Carter, 49, will be at 1 p.m. today at Miller Funeral Home & Crematory with Bro. Richard OíConnor officiating. The family received friends from 6-8 last night at the funeral home. Burial will be at Carter Cemetery in Ohatchee. Mrs. Carter died Monday at her residence. Mrs. Carter is survived by her husband, Keith Carter, of Lincoln; two sons, Rich Carter, of Eastaboga and Daniel Carter and wife, Sandy, of Oxford; daughter, Amanda Carter, of Lincoln; two grandchildren, Katie Carter and Josh Dixon, both of Oxford; two sisters, Brenda Hallmark and husband, Kenny, of Argo, Cathy Kulpe and husband, Don, of Snellville, Ga.; two brothers, Jacob Bosworth Jr. and wife, Judy, of Decatur and Pat Bosworth and wife, Hope, of Springville. Mrs. Carter was a graduate of Banks High School of Birmingham and was a member of the Betta-view Hills Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Bettye Bosworth.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Shaddix, Elton Carter, Breck Carter, Alex Pope, Kenny Hallmark, Jason Kulpe, Cread Clifton Jr., and Reggie Bell. Honorary Pallbearer will be L.W. Walters. Personal condolences may be written to the family at www.millerfuneralhomeoxford.com.

ERWIN

PIEDMONT — Funeral services for Eunice Luvene Erwin, 73, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Thompson Funeral Home with Dr. Ed Coogler, the Rev. Larry Johnson and the Rev. Tim Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 tonight at the funeral home. Mrs. Erwin died Monday, August 25, 2008, at Gadsden Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include her husband, Luther M. Erwin, of Piedmont; one daughter, Towana Fuqua (Philip), of Hokes Bulff; one sister, Zelma Johnson (Jack), of Somerville; one sister-in-law, Pat White, of Hinesville, Ga.; several nieces and nephews; several great-nieces; and great- nephews.

Pallbearers will be Gene Hardin, Jerry Ballinger, Gaven Ballinger, Tommy Erwin, Joey Fortenberry and Luther Gene Erwin. Honorary pallbearers will be the Piedmont High School Class of 1951 and the Gadsden Regional Medical Center Eight Floor Nurses, PCA's, Doctors and staff. Mrs. Erwin was a native and lifelong resident of Piedmont, where she was a member of Dailey Street Baptist Church. She retired from Southtrust Bank and enjoyed sewing and cooking. She was a devoted wife and homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents, J.T. and Mary Reynolds White; a brother, H.C. White; and a nephew, Scott White. Flowers may be sent or memorial contributions may be made to Piedmont Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 333, Piedmont, Ala. 36272 or to Dailey Street Baptist Church, 106 S. Church Street, Piedmont, Ala. 36272.

MALCOM

ANNISTON — Graveside service with full military honors for Tom Watson Malcom will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Rainbow Memorial Gardens in Rainbow City with the Rev. Scott Whetstone officiating and Anniston Memorial Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends Thursday from 5 until 7 at the funeral home. Mr. Malcom died Tuesday at his home.

Survivors include his wife, Laura Cagle Malcom; his daughter, Diane M. Works and her husband, Ron, of Anniston; three grandsons, Jeffrey Works of Warner Robins, Ga., Jason Malcom, of Attalla and Joseph Works, of Warner Robins, Ga. Mr. Malcom retired after serving 20 years in the U.S. Army. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was also retired from the Anniston Army Depot after 30 years of service. PIEDMONT — Graveside services for Horace Alton McDowell Jr., 65, will be at 2 p.m. today from Goshen Cemetery. Visitation from 1-1:30 at the funeral home at Folsom Funeral Home.

TUCKER

PIEDMONT — Graveside services for Mrs. Sue R. Tucker, 90, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday from Piedmont Memory Gardens. Visitation from noon until 2 p.m. at Folsom Funeral Home.

WILLIAMS

PIEDMONT — Funeral services for Lela Mae "Aunt Mae" Williams, 91, will be at 2 p.m. today at Thompson Funeral Home with the Rev. William Cain officiating. Burial will follow at Moore's Cemetery. The family will receive friends two hours prior to services at the funeral home. Miss Williams died Tuesday, August 26, 2008, at her home.

Survivors include one sister, Orelia Johnson, of Rome, Ga.; one sister-in-law, Elizabeth Williams, of Piedmont; and several nieces and nephews and their families.

Pallbearers will be Carl Moses, Tim Lane, Tommy Erwin, Greg Williams, Gene Johnson and Donald Johnson. Miss Williams was a native and resident of Calhoun County. She retired from Anniston Army Depot. In her earlier years she enjoyed caring for her family, cooking, gardening and working in her yard and flowers. In her latter days she enjoyed visits and calls from her loved ones and reading her Bible. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jay B. and Vennah Williams; five brothers, Edward Williams, Lytelle Williams, Ernest Williams, Smith Williams and Morris Williams; three sisters, Clara Trantham, Dean Erwin and Jeannette Lane; four nephews and two nieces. The family extends a special thank you to Alacare and Hilda Parris.
