ANNISTON — Funeral service for Mr. Eddie "Slim" Avery, 89, will be 11 a.m. Saturday, August 16, 2008, at Anniston Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. W. S. Fields officiating. Burial will be at Eden Hills Cemetery with Anniston Funeral services in charge. The family will receive friends this evening, August 15, 2008 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. The body will be at the chapel until time of services. Mr. Avery died on August 11, 2008 at Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include eight sons, Roy (Lidia) Avery, of Rochester, N.Y., Eddie (Divore) Avery III, and Charles "Butch" (Debra) Avery, all of Cincinnati, Ohio, Joseph Ricky (Terrell), of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., Marcus Avery, of Cincinnati, Ohio, Lawarren (Lisa) Orr, of Anniston, Michael D. (Shelleva) Orr, of Stone Mountain, Ga., and Romaine (Nickey) Avery, of Cincinnati, Ohio; three daughters, Quenne Renee Avery, of Cincinnati, Ohio, Verlarne Orr (Louis) Moreland of Houston, Texas, and Syretha Orr (Chris) Story, of Laurel, Md.; five stepchildren, 39 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. JACKSONVILLE — Graveside service for Walter Raleigh Boozer Sr., 79, will be at 2 p.m. today, August 15, 2008, at the Rabbittown Cemetery with the Rev. Rick McClain officiating. K.L. Mr. Boozer died Tuesday, August 12, 2008 at Stringfellow Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Nellie Dean Boozer; two daughters, Tina Carter and her husband, Ernist and Vivian Waits; two sons, Walter Boozer Jr. and his wife, Clauida, and Lonnie Boozer and his wife, Amy; one sister, Irene West; 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

ANNISTON — Jasper Bennett Harper, 82, died Wednesday, August 13, 2008, at NHC Healthcare. Funeral service for Mr. Harper will be at 12 p.m. Saturday, August 16, 2008, at White Plains Baptist Church with the Rev. Eric Snider officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until 12 p.m. Saturday at White Plains Baptist Church.
Pallbearers are Steven Harper, Alex Harper, Paul Harper, Randy Harper, Sparks Harper, and Donnie Ford.
Survivors include two sons, Bennett (Kristy) Harper, of Crossville, Tenn., and Rick (Jan) Harper, of Gadsden; sister, Dollie Cammila Hall, of White Plains; five grandchildren, Steven Harper, Alex Harper, Leslie Walker, Daniel Walker, and Jessica Hendrickson; two great-grandchildren, Samantha Walker and Jake Walker. Mr. Harper was a native and life long resident of the White Plains Community and a faithful member of White Plains Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, William J. and Lovetta Harper; four brothers, Merrill Harper, Lamar Harper, Hubert Harper, Fratus Harper, and a sister, Minnie Lee Houck.

JACKSONVILLE — Agnes McVey McNabb came to this country from a small coal-mining town in Scotland with a dream for a better life. She was 18 when she married an Army man and traveled the world while having children. "The years spent raising my children were the best in my life," she used to say. Raising children wasn't enough for this bright Scottish lassie, nay, she attended JSU and graduated with BS and MS degrees. Agnes spent the next 20 years teaching high school English and elementary reading, the joy of her career. Following her retirement, she worked with the Jacksonville Meals on Wheels and served as a "bell ringer" at Christmas for the Salvation Army. She enjoyed helping those less fortunate. For many years, she was a member of the Inter Se Study. Agnes is survived by daughters, Ann McNabb Busby and her husband, Robert, of Falls Church, Va., Beth McNabb Halstead and her husband, Stephen, of St. Petersburg, Fla., Kem McNabb Kendig and children Andy and Katie, of Phoenix, Ariz.; son, Charles Jack McNabb, of Jacksonville and his daughter, Tiya, of Birmingham. A memorial service will be at Saturday, August 16, 2008, at 2 p.m. with visitation from 1 - 2 p.m. at the K.L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center Chapel. Thomas and Robert W. Thomas, all of Anniston; two sisters, Bonnie Davis, of Piedmont and Liz Watley, of Florida; 36 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
