FUQUA

PIEDMONT — Services for Mr. Richard Randolph Fuqua, 64, will be today at 2 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home with the Rev. Tommy Ballew officiating. Burial will follow at Piedmont Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends two hours prior to services. Mr. Fuqua died Saturday, May 10, 2008, at Jacksonville Medical Center.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Effie Fuqua; two daughters, Christy Fuqua Brown (Stacey) and Lisa Ann Fuqua Mobley (Carl), all of Piedmont; one granddaughter, Heather Nicole Brown, of Piedmont; mother, Vera Fuqua, of Piedmont; one brother, Allen Ray Fuqua (Ellen), of Piedmont; two sisters, Jean Mann (Clint), of McDonough, Georgia and Sue Motes (Gene), of Jacksonville; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Stacey Brown, Carl Mobley, Larry Gossett, David Hastert, Michael Tolbert and Gary Hastert. Mr. Fuqua was a native and lifelong resident of Piedmont. He retired from Diodati Construction with 35 years services as a concrete finisher and was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed working on the farm and spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his father, Virgil Lee Fuqua.

GILMER

OHATCHEE — Graveside services for Doris Scoggins Gilmer, 79, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at Vinson Cemetery in Ohatchee with the Rev. Jimmy Nunnally officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 this evening at Chapel Hill Funeral Home. Mrs. Gilmer died Saturday, May 10, 2008 at RMC Long-Term Care.

Survivors include one son, Randy Gilmer and his wife, Charlotte, of Jacksonville; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband William D. Gilmer; five sisters and six brothers.

Pallbearers will be Larry Scoggins, Alton Gilmer, William Gilmer, Clyde Gilmer, Koley Gilmer and Kyle Gilmer. Mrs. Gilmer was a native and life long resident of Calhoun County. She retired from Anniston Sportswear, after 25 years of service and was an Avon Representative for 30 years. Mrs. Gilmer was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include his wife, Ann T. Love; three children, Kelley Love Daniels and her husband, Craig, of Springville, Patrick Wayne Love and his wife, Benita, of Pell City, Zachary Alan Love and Michelle Morgan, of Anniston; four grandchildren, Conner and Brandon Daniels and Tanner and Ashton Love; brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Linda Love, of Anniston; sister and brother-in-law, Beverly and Philip Little, of Myrtle Beach, SC; nephew, Jeffery Love and his wife, Melissa; niece, Stephanie Scott and her husband, Matt; great nieces and nephews, Mason and Kate Love and Davis Scott and lifelong friends, James and Rita Carlisle.

Pallbearers will be Lynn Martin, James Carlisle, Terry McNeal, Jack Brim, Ken McNeal, John Reynolds, Andy Carlisle and Jeffery Love. Mr. Love was born in Piedmont, educated at Jacksonville State University and the University of Alabama, School of Law. He was a member of the Anniston Quarterback Club, Saks Civitan Club, First Baptist Church of Saks and Disciplers Sunday School Class and an avid University of Alabama sports fan. PHILLIPS

ANNISTON — Funeral services for Cleola Robinson Phillips, 81, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 13, 2008, at Anniston Funeral services Chapel with the Rev. O.E. Webb officiating. Burial will follow at Eden Hills Cemetery with Anniston Funeral services in charge. The family will receive friends from 6-7 tonight at the funeral home. The body will be at the chapel one hour prior to the service. Mrs. Phillips died Thursday, May 8, 2008 at her residence.

Survivors include her husband, Mr. George Phillips, of Anniston; one sister, Willie Bee Williams, of Birmingham; niece, Phyllis Williams, of Birmingham; nephew, Junior Gordon, of Birmingham; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be friends of the family. Mrs. Phillips was a lifelong native of Anniston and was retired from Regional Medical Center (Food Services); later serving as a volunteer Pink Lady at the hospital. She was a faithful member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church and Choir, and also a member of the SCLC. Mrs. Phillips was preceded in death by two brothers, Archie and Woodrow Medlen; and a sister, Beula Parks. Survivors include her husband of 27 years, Paul Puckett; two daughters, Debbie C. Jones and husband, Jimmy, of Trussville, and Ann Copeland, of Wellington; two sons, Jody Copeland, of Springville and Timothy Puckett and his wife, Cindy, of Pelham; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Puckett is preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Merzell Price.

SCRANTON

MORGANTON, Ga. — The Akins Funeral Home of Blue Ridge announces the death of Mr. Francis Joseph Scranton Jr., 69, of Morganton, Ga., who passed away Friday, May 9, 2008 in the Fannin Regional Hospital. He was born in Clementon, N.J. on October 17, 1938 to the late Francis Joseph Scranton Sr. and Theresa Rudolph Scranton. His family moved to Bartow, Fla. in 1948 where he graduated from Bartow High School. He lived in Clearwater, Fla. many years and lived 22 years in Anniston, Ala. He and his son Frank Scranton III moved to Morganton, Ga. when they bought the Whispering Pines Campground in January 2002. Mr. Scranton was a member of Saint Anthony's Catholic Church. He served his country in the United States Army Reserves. Mr. Scranton worked for 20 years with Snap on Tools. He is preceded in death by a brother, Richard Scranton of Bartow, Fla.

Survivors include his wife, LaWanda Scranton, of Anniston; son, Frank Scranton III, of Morganton, Ga.; daughter and son-in-law, Christina and Keith Badowski, of Phenix City; brothers, William Scranton, of Jacksonville, Fla. and Robert Scranton, of Gainesville, Fla.; and sister, Theresa Shelton, of Bartow, Fla. A funeral mass will be conducted Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. from Saint Anthony's Catholic Church with The Rev. John Conway officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. There will be a vigil service at 7:30 tonight at the funeral home.
